Virginians for Offshore Wind Team Attends Old Dominion University’s Maritime and Offshore Wind Conference

On March 25, the Virginians for Offshore Wind (VAOSW) team attended Old Dominion University’s Maritime and Offshore Wind Conference in Norfolk, Virginia. The conference was hosted by several VAOSW members, who set up tables and shared more about their work and connection to the offshore wind industry with attendees. Members who participated included Centura College, Dominion Energy, the Hampton Roads Workforce Council, Southeastern Wind Coalition and the Virginia Maritime Association.

At the day-long conference, there were several informative panels and testimonies about the growing offshore wind industry and its importance to the Commonwealth. A few highlights:

  • A panel on “Chartering Careers in OSW” where employees shared their journeys and experiences in the industry.
  • A keynote speech from Patrick Shim, managing director at LS Cable & System.
  • A panel on “Training and Recruitment” to look at who is training and hiring for the industry in Hampton Roads.
  • A legislative update from Delegate Michael Feggans
  • A panel on the “Employer Perspective” and what skills are most needed in the offshore wind workforce.

The VAOSW team was thrilled to get the chance to connect with supporters of offshore wind from across the region at this conference and to hear stories of the impact of the growing industry.
