Virginians for Offshore Wind Adds New Members To Growing Coalition Advancing Clean Energy & Economic Growth in Virginia

Coalition nears 40 members, adds eight to diverse membership since Nov. 2021 launch

Since the coalition first launched in mid-November 2021, Virginians for Offshore Wind, a coalition dedicated to advancing the offshore wind industry and the clean energy transformation and economic opportunities that come with it, has added eight new members to its diverse, growing roster, including Virginia State University, New College Institute, Shenandoah Valley Partnership, Lynnhaven River NOW, Beach Development Group, the Virginia Maritime Association, the Virginia State Building and Construction Trades Council, and Amplifier Ventures.

The broad, statewide support from Virginia businesses, chambers of commerce, civic organizations, universities, and more throughout the Commonwealth is a testament to the overwhelming support for offshore wind. Members new and old recognize that, by supporting offshore wind in Virginia, we are setting up Virginia to become the offshore wind capitol of the East Coast.

“We are excited to join Virginians for Offshore Wind and support its mission to promote clean energy and economic growth in the commonwealth,“ said Brian Pace, head of wind training at the New College Institute. “The New College Institute’s innovation center offers GWO certified training programs for wind turbine technicians, and we look forward to education and workforce partnership opportunities with the coalition and offshore wind industry as a whole.”

“The Shenandoah Valley Partnership is focused on growing Virginia businesses, our economy, and our workforce – supporting offshore wind and the technology it represents aligns perfectly with our mission which is why we’re excited to join this growing coalition,” said Jay A. Langston, Ph.D., executive director of the Shenandoah Valley Partnership. “Over the coming years, offshore wind is going to create thousands of jobs throughout the commonwealth and help establish Virginia as the offshore wind hub of the United States. We’re glad to be a part of this progress.”

With the addition of recent members, Virginians for Offshore Wind has reached nearly 40 members across the commonwealth in support of offshore wind.
