ICYMI: Port Of Virginia Became First East Coast Port Powered By 100 Percent Clean Energy

In case you missed it, the Port of Virginia is now powered entirely by clean energy, becoming the first East Coast port to achieve this feat. This milestone strengthens Virginia’s reputation as a clean energy hub and supports the state’s efforts to become 100 percent carbon-free by 2050.

Offshore wind development has played a critical role in achieving this goal and shifting away from carbon-based fuels towards clean, renewable energy sources. According to a North America Clean Energy press release on this achievement, Bob Blue, Dominion Energy’s chair, president and CEO said, “Virginia’s port is second to none and plays a vital role in the development of offshore wind along the East Coast. The action it is taking on its sustainability goal shows this is a forward-looking organization at the forefront of Virginia’s clean energy transition.”

Through innovation and modernization, the Port of Virginia is establishing itself as a leader in clean energy development and cementing its status as the epicenter of offshore wind development in the United States.

Additionally, Mayor Shannon Glover of Portsmouth, Virginia, recently highlighted the positive economic and environmental impact of offshore wind and clean energy development in the Commonwealth and called offshore wind “a win for Portsmouth, a win for Virginia, and a win for America.”
