ICYMI: Conservatives for Clean Energy Emphasizes Economic Benefits of Offshore Wind Energy in Richmond Times-Dispatch Opinion Piece

By Virginians for Offshore Wind

In case you missed it, last week, Ron Butler, state director of Conservatives for Clean Energy Virginia, a member of Virginians for Offshore Wind, authored an opinion piece in the Richmond Times-Dispatch on the state of offshore wind development in Virginia and the benefits the industry will bring to the Commonwealth for years to come.

In his piece, Butler touched on the economic advantages of an investment in offshore wind energy in Virginia, noting that the cost-effectiveness and reliability of offshore wind is worth the investment.

The rapid development and growth of the offshore wind industry in Virginia was spurred by the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) project off the coast of Virginia Beach. Spearheaded by Dominion Energy, this wind farm will be the largest of its kind in the U.S. once it is completed and is set to deliver clean energy to up to 660,000 Virginia homes.

Regarding the CVOW project and its economic benefits, Butler wrote: “With some experts predicting Virginia’s electricity demand will increase by as much as 38% by 2035, this new generation capacity is needed to power the commonwealth’s economy in the future.”
