CVOW Project Reaches Key Milestone: 50th Monopile Foundation Installed

Today, Dominion Energy announced that the 50th monopile foundation was installed this morninginside the leasing area of the future 2.6-gigawatt Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind farm.

This exciting occasion further proves that the Virginia model for offshore wind is working as the project remains on-time and on-budget. Dominion has previously shared that the target number of monopiles to install by October this year is between 70-100.

From the Release:

“Our on-time, on-budget Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project proves that regulated offshore wind works in the United States. Offshore wind is critical to our all-of-the-above approach to provide our customers with affordable, reliable and increasingly clean energy,” said Bob Blue, Dominion Energy’s chair, president and chief executive officer, of the announcement.

Upon completion, CVOW will be capable of providing power to as many as 660,000 Virginia homes, avoiding millions of tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year. As a renewable energy source, this offshore wind project will have no fuel costs and is expected to save Virginia customers more than $3 billion during its first 10 years in operation.
