Charybdis Wind Turbine Installation Vessel Arrives in Virginia
In case you missed it, the Charybdis, the first Jones Act compliant wind turbine installation vessel arrived in Virginia in mid-September.
The vessel, which was ordered in 2020, will be tasked with installing turbines for the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) project 27 miles off the coast of Virginia Beach. Its arrival marks yet another significant milestone for the project as well as the domestic offshore wind industry.

Charybdis arrived at Portsmouth Marine Terminal on September 17, nearly one month after departing from Brownsville, Texas on August 22. The ship is 472 feet long, 184 feet wide and 38 feet deep, and can hold up to 119 people. The ship was constructed in Texas over the course of four years.
Now that Charybdis is on site at the CVOW project, we can expect to see wind turbine installation pick up soon – yet another sign that the project is on track to be completed in 2026.
