Another Major Milestone: The 70th Monopile is Installed for the CVOW Project

As installation season continues for the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) project off the coast of Virginia Beach, another major milestone was reached: the 70^th monopile foundation for the wind farm was put into place. Additionally, the first export cables for the project were recently laid by DEME Group.

The 70^th installation was yet another sign that the progress for the project is continuing to stay on time and on budget – according to Dominion Energy, the plan for the project was to get between 75 and 100 monopiles installed before the season ends in October.

This is great news for the future of offshore wind in Virginia. This project is at the forefront of offshore wind generation on the East Coast, making unprecedented progress as construction continues. Once completed, more than 600,000 Virginia homes and businesses will be powered by clean energy, and our grid will be much more reliable due to our all-of-the-above energy approach.

The project is also going to create substantial jobs and economic benefits for the Commonwealth. During construction, CVOW could support 900 direct and indirect jobs annually, and during operation, it could support more than 1,000. Additionally, once the project is fully operational it is expected to generate nearly $210 million each year in economic output.
