VAOSW Attends LS GreenLink Subsea Power Cables Manufacturing Facility Groundbreaking Event in Chesapeake, VA

On Monday, members of the Virginians for Offshore Wind (VAOSW) team attended the groundbreaking event for LS GreenLink’s Subsea Power Cable Manufacturing Facility in Chesapeake, Virginia. Attending the event were Virginia leaders including Governor Glenn Youngkin, U.S. Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA), Mayor Rick West of the city of Chesapeake, and Virginia Secretary of Trade and Commerce Juan Pablo Segura, alongside president and CEO of LS Cable & System Ltd. Bon-Kyu Koo and managing director of LS GreenLink Patrick Y Shim.

The event included a ceremony during which all speakers participated in the official groundbreaking for the construction of the facility, as seen in the photo above.

Construction on the facility is set to be completed by the third quarter of 2027 and will be fully operational by early 2028. Once it is completed, the facility will take up 96 acres and will include the tallest structure in Virginia. As many speakers pointed out at the event, there is also plenty of room for the facility to grow in the future, with land stretching for miles in the surrounding area. This is key as the Commonwealth continues to be a leader in the energy space, allowing for additional investments and infrastructure to follow this impressive development.
