Another Milestone for the CVOW Project: First Offshore Substation Installed

In case you missed it, last month, DEME announced that the first offshore substation for the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) project was officially installed off the coast of Virginia Beach. This is the first of three substations that will be in place once the project is complete.

This is another significant milestone for the CVOW project, which is continuing to move forward as planned. With construction set to be finished next year, the offshore wind farm will be the largest of its kind in the United States, featuring 176 turbines with a capacity of 2.6 gigawatts. The wind farm will generate enough energy to power 660,000 Virginia homes at peak output.

The CVOW project is also a catalyst for economic growth in the Commonwealth. During construction alone, the project is supporting 900 direct and indirect jobs and generating more than $143 million in economic output each year. Once it is complete, those numbers will grow to 1,100 jobs and nearly $210 million in economic output. The success that will come to Virginia as a result of this project is only just getting started.

We look forward to seeing the continued progress during the construction phase of this project!
