OUR CORE PRINCIPLES ARE TWO-FOLD:

Support clean energy development in the Commonwealth.

Clean energy generated through offshore wind right here in Virginia will help us reduce our carbon use while protecting our environment for the future and providing reliable energy statewide. The CVOW project, which is being built 27 miles off the coast of Virginia Beach, is key to cleaner, renewable energy. Upon completion in 2026, the CVOW project will deliver more than 8 million MWh of clean, renewable energy to the grid, powering up to 660,000 homes and avoiding as much as 4.877 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually – the equivalent of taking more than 1 million non-EV cars off the road for one year or planting more than 80 million trees.

Promote clean energy jobs and economic growth.

Creating good-paying, clean energy jobs is crucial to Virginia’s future economic growth. By advancing the CVOW project, Virginia is creating new opportunities in the clean energy industry and diversifying our economy. The CVOW pilot and commercial projects will support thousands of direct and indirect jobs along the East Coast as it is developed, and the offshore wind energy industry grows. With this job growth comes positive economic ripple effects throughout the state that lifts us all up. Further, the CVOW project paves the way for Virginia to lead offshore wind development in the United States due to our best-in-class port, central location, capable workforce, and supportive Virginia businesses. We are laying the groundwork for clean energy economic and job growth for this generation and many to come.

OUR MEMBERS

Virginians for Offshore Wind is dedicated to promoting offshore wind in Virginia, including the clean energy transformation and economic opportunities that come with it. We are a Dominion Energy-supported coalition of Virginia organizations focused on educating Virginians about critical offshore wind energy projects such as the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) project that will help the Commonwealth achieve its clean energy, economic, and environmental goals.

Virginians for Offshore Wind aims to educate Virginians about the Commonwealth’s progress toward becoming a nationwide leader in offshore wind and provide fact-based resources where residents can find project updates, news stories, and research. Our members have a shared belief that offshore wind will benefit the entire commonwealth, including individuals, families, and businesses, as well as the East Coast and nation, through the economic and clean energy developments the industry brings.

Our members recognize the short- and long-term benefits of this project and want to see it advance and thrive. Virginia is poised to lead the nation in clean energy, but it will take the efforts of many stakeholders in education, business, academia, and government to take advantage of this once-in-a-generation opportunity.
